Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) is low-cost health and dental insurance for children and pregnant women. It is for people who earn too much to qualify for Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid Program), but not enough to pay for private health insurance. CHP+ is paid for by a combination of state and federal funding.
We can help you apply. Generally, a family of four with an income up to $55,000 a year will qualify for CHP+. To qualify, a person must:
- Be pregnant or 18 or younger
- Live in Colorado
- Not qualify for Medicaid
- Not have other health insurance
- Have family income with CHP+ income limits
- Be U.S. citizens, legal permanent U.S. residents for at least five years (excluding pregnant women and children) or an asylee or refugee.
Depending on family size and income, some famlies may need to pay an annual enrollment fee and co-pays (payment at time of visit). The maximum annual fee is $105. Co-pays range between $2 and $50 for some medical and dental services. Pregnant women have no co-pays. A pregnant woman can get health care right away while she waits for CHP+ to look at her application. This is called Presumptive Eligibility.
